TOBACCO FREE FOR LIFE (TFL)

The Partnership for Health's Tobacco Free for Life (TFL) program is grant funded grass roots volunteer coalition whose mission is to prevent and reduce underage tobacco use through education, awareness and community-wide efforts. The majority of first-time tobacco use occurs before high school graduation, so keeping children tobacco free during adolescence is the primary goal of TFL. The program was developed with the belief that it is the community's responsibility to help children understand the addictive nature of tobacco products and to teach them how to make wise health choices. With prevention as the primary focus, TFL provides a "tobacco free" message to Henderson County students using curriculum enhancement, presentations, contests, assemblies, school health fairs, promotional items, and educational materials. In addition to classroom interactions, TFL has developed a variety of media strategies to promote a tobacco free message.

Many initiatives, activities, and materials have been developed to achieve the TFL goals, all of which stem from the program's core projects. These projects include:
  • SWAT (Students Warning Against Tobacco) Clubs
  • KAT (Kids Against Tobacco) Club - 5th grade peer mentoring
  • Smoke Free Workplace
  • Public Policy & Advocacy
